IXCHIQ® KEY FACTS

WORLD-FIRST VACCINE AGAINST CHIKV

IXCHIQ® was the world’s first vaccine licensed to help protect against chikungunya.3,4

EFFECTIVE LIVE VACCINE DESIGN

Developed using a well-established, live-attenuated vaccine technology that can help to induce long-lasting immunity.5

POWERFUL PROTECTION

98.9% of clinical trial participants reached seroresponse threshold 28 days after vaccination; 94.5% maintained seroresponse rate four years after vaccination.6,7

GENERALLY WELL TOLERTAED IN CLINICAL STUDIES

IXCHIQ® was shown to be generally well tolerated across clinical trials involving more than 3500 adults.6

SINGLE DOSE ADMINISTRATION

IXCHIQ® is administered in one injectable dose, no later than 30 days prior to travel.1

PRODUCT CHARACTERISTICS

IXCHIQ® is supplied as a powder and solvent for solution for injection. The vaccine consists of a vial containing lyophilised powder and a pre-filled syringe containing sterile water for injection. The two components must be reconstituted before administration to produce a 0.5 mL solution for intramuscular injection.6

After reconstitution, each 0.5 mL dose contains live, attenuated chikungunya virus (Δ5nsP3 strain) produced in Vero cells, with a potency of not less than 3.0 log10 TCID50 (50% tissue culture infectious dose).6

The powder contains the following excipients: sucrose, D-sorbitol, L-methionine, trisodium citrate di-hydrate, magnesium chloride, di-potassium hydrogen phosphate, potassium di-hydrogen phosphate and recombinant human albumin. The solvent is sterile water for injections.6

VACCINE STORAGE AND HANDLING

The vial and syringe should be stored in a refrigerator at 2–8 °C6

Do not freeze6

Unopened vial has a shelf life of two years6

All IXCHIQ® components should be stored in the original carton to protect from light6

The reconstituted IXCHIQ® vaccine is stable for two hours when stored either refrigerated (2°C to 8°C) or at room temperature (15–25 °C), after which it must be discarded6
