WHAT IS DUKORAL®?

DUKORAL® is a vaccine that helps protect against cholera – it is provided as a convenient drinkable formulation.1

DUKORAL® is an inactivated vaccine, so there’s no risk of transmission from vaccine recipients to non-vaccinated close contacts (e.g., family members).1,2

DUKORAL® was the first cholera vaccine licensed for use in the UK.3

DUKORAL® INDICATION

DUKORAL® is licensed for adults, adolescents, and children aged two years or older who are travelling to at-risk areas for cholera.1

DUKORAL® CONTRAINDICATIONS

The vaccine is contraindicated in individuals who have had an anaphylactic reaction to any vaccine component or formaldehyde. For a full list of vaccine components, please see the summary of product characteristics.1

Administration of DUKORAL® should be postponed for patients suffering from acute gastrointestinal illness or acute febrile illness.1

PRODUCT CHARACTERISTICS

Each dose of DUKORAL® contains inactivated Vibrio cholera O1 bacteria and the recombinant non-toxic B-subunit of the cholera toxin (rCTB).1

Immunisation protects specifically against V. cholerae serogroup O1 and is not a substitute for adhering to protective hygiene measures.1

VACCINE STORAGE AND HANDLING

DUKORAL® should be stored in a refrigerator at 2–8°C1

Do not freeze1

DUKORAL® has a shelf life of three years1

Product in the unopened vial and sachet, stored in the outer carton, is stable at temperatures up to 25oC for a period of 14 days1

At the end of this period the product should be used or discarded1
