DUKORAL® DOSING SCHEDULE

The primary vaccination series consists of two oral doses of DUKORAL® dissolved in a water-based solution, spaced one to six weeks apart, with the second dose at least one week before travel.1

Children aged 2–6 years should take three oral doses, administered at intervals of at least one week, with the third dose at least one week before travel.1

  • In either case, if more than six weeks have elapsed between doses, the primary immunisation course should be re-started.1

DUKORAL® should be dissolved in a glass of cool water (approx. 150 ml). Chlorinated water can also be used.1

For adults and children aged six years and older, the vaccine schedule can be started as late as 14 days before travel, making it suitable for last-minute travellers.1

DUKORAL® BOOSTER

Booster doses with DUKORAL® can extend the length of protection against cholera.1

Immunological data suggest that a single booster can be administered to an adult before two years have elapsed since last vaccination to prolong protection.1

For children aged 2–6 years the booster should be given within six months of last vaccination.1

In cases where more than two years have elapsed since the last vaccination (more than six months for children aged 2–6 years) the full two dose primary course should be repeated.1

CONCOMITANT ADMINISTRATION

DUKORAL® can be administered on the same day as some oral vaccinations and drugs, including typhoid live oral vaccine (entero-capsules) and yellow fever vaccine.1

Food, drink and medicinal products should be avoided one hour before and one hour after administration of DUKORAL®.1

IMMUNISE THE IMMUNOCOMPROMISED

DUKORAL® may be used in HIV+ patients.1

Although there is limited data, similar effectiveness was reported in populations with and without high HIV prevalence.*1

*Immunisation of HIV infected subjects could result in transient increases of viral load and DUKORAL® may not induce protective antibody levels in subjects with advanced HIV disease.1
